In a shocking turn of events, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed strong condemnation regarding the violent invasion of Egbedi community in the Egbedore Local Government Area. This incident, reportedly led by political thugs associated with Governor Ademola Adeleke, has raised alarming concerns about the security and safety of residents in the state.
Reports indicate that numerous residents were injured during the attack, which was allegedly orchestrated by Oriade Kazeem, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Adeleke. The violence erupted over a land and chieftaincy dispute, with armed individuals firing guns into the air and attacking community members with crude weapons.
The Elegbedi of Egbedi, Oba Muideen Azeez, has publicly appealed for federal intervention to safeguard the lives and properties of his people, revealing that several of his subjects, including notable figures like Chief Ajiroba, were attacked and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The APC has voiced its dismay at the apparent immunity enjoyed by those acting under the governor’s name, with party officials labeling the situation a “show of shame.” They have questioned how such a culture of impunity could thrive in Osun State under Adeleke’s administration, which they claim has been marred by violence and extra-judicial killings.
In a statement, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Osun State APC Director of Media and Information, emphasized the party’s disappointment at the actions of a governor’s appointee brandishing weapons and terrorizing citizens. The party has called attention to a series of violent incidents across the state, raising concerns about the governor’s ability to maintain law and order. The APC accuses the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of fostering an environment of fear and violence in its pursuit of power.
In response, the state government has announced an investigation into the Egbedi attacks. However, the APC remains skeptical, suggesting that previous promises for accountability have gone unfulfilled. They remind Adeleke of his constitutional duty to protect the citizens and demand an end to the violence plaguing the state.
This troubling situation in Egbedi serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing governance in Osun State, highlighting the urgent need for effective leadership and a commitment to the rule of law.
