The political tension surrounding the local government leadership crisis in Osun State has taken a new twist as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the state government of attempting to bribe officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to tilt the ongoing dispute in its favour.

In a strongly worded statement issued by Kola Olabisi, Director of Media and Information for the Osun APC, the party alleged that top officials of the state government made efforts to compromise CBN workers after the apex bank demanded the Certified True Copy (CTC) of a Court of Appeal judgment reportedly reinstating the sacked APC local government chairmen.

The controversy escalated following a letter from the CBN, dated April 7, 2025, responding to an earlier request from the reinstated chairmen under the APC. The CBN had asked for proper court documentation to support the claim of legitimacy made by the APC-backed chairmen seeking federal allocation.

The APC insists the CBN’s request is purely procedural and not a rejection of its request, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Osun government of misrepresenting the facts to score political points.

“We are aware of the desperation of the officials of the state government… to bribe and compromise some amenable officers of the CBN with hefty money drawn from the state coffers,” Olabisi stated, while commending the apex bank for maintaining professionalism.

The party further lambasted the state government for allegedly ignoring a directive from the Federal Ministry of Justice, which it claims urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to comply with the Court of Appeal judgment reinstating the APC chairmen and councillors.

The government has yet to issue an official response to these allegations.

This fresh accusation adds fuel to an already fiery local government crisis that has pitted the PDP and APC against each other in a legal and political tug-of-war over control of grassroots governance in Osun State.
