Caretaker chairman of Nimo Town Development Union, NTDU, Nduka Aguofia has announced the shutting down of the community’s town hall, to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

Aguofia said the royal cabinet of the community took the decision after a court judgement sacking the hitherto substantive leadership of the community, led by Dan Anakpe.

In a press release he signed and made available to journalists, the caretaker chairman warned against any act of brigandage in the community, saying that all town union activities have been suspended and that the order must be adhered to.

Though several communities are currently enmeshed in a bitter leadership tussle, that of Nimo recently took a sharp turn when indigenes of the community confessed that crime has doubled in the area, leading to the invitation of soldiers to provide security in the community.

Some people opposed to the invitation of the soldiers had protested their invitation, leaving many to wonder what they were afraid of.

The recent sack of the Anakpe-led town union executive by the court was said to have been protested by some people, who the community suspects aimed at causing trouble. This led the royal cabinet to announce a suspension of all activities of the town union.

Aguofia in his press release supporting the shutdown of the town hall and suspension of all town union activities throughout the yuletide warned that until a higher court upturns the order, no one would be allowed to disobey the pronouncements of the royal cabinet.

He said: “The recent court judgment has brought to an end the leadership crisis that has been rocking the NTDU.

“We urge all parties involved to respect the judgment and work towards a peaceful resolution. We will not tolerate any act of brigandage or violence in Nimo Town, and we will do everything in our power to maintain law and order,” Aguofia stated.

“Let us work together to build a peaceful and prosperous Nimo Town. We must respect the rule of law and work towards a common goal. I urge everyone to cooperate with the Caretaker Committee and to support our efforts to move the union forward.”
