Jurgen Klopp’s side earned a point in their Premier League opener at Stamford Bridge as Luis Diaz’s opener was cancelled out by Axel Disasi’s goal before half time.
Meanwhile, Mac Allister was handed his debut at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield following his £35 million move from Brighton earlier this summer.
Mac Allister was up against his Argentina teammate Fernandez, who delivered an impressive performance in Chelsea’s midfield and was named man of the match for his display.
And the Liverpool midfielder believes Fernandez impact on the game shows why Chelsea opted to pay £106.8m to sign him from Benfica in January.
‘I have already faced him [Fernandez] several times,’ Mac Allister told Paramount Plus after the game.
‘I have played with him, he is a great player, I respect him a lot, I have a great relationship.
‘Today he showed why they paid what they paid for him, why he is here and it makes me happy for him, obviously.’
Mac Allister also spoke about his early relationship with Klopp at Liverpool.
‘Jurgen is a person who is close to his players,’ Mac Allister said.
‘He treats them in a great way and I think that is the most important thing a person has.
‘He treats me very well, we have had good talks about what he wants from me on the pitch and it’s a joy for me to be able to work with him too.’
