Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has run the rule over Erik ten Hag’s signings and has hailed the Dutchman for doing a ‘fantastic job’.

Ten Hag took charge at Old Trafford last summer, guiding United back into the Champions League with a third-placed finish in the Premier League and he also secured the Red Devils’ first trophy in six years as his side lifted the Carabao Cup.
Ten Hag brought in a number of new players last term who have massively improved the side, including Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez, while Ferguson has also been impressed by Christian Eriksen and Raphael Varane.
United have strengthened their squad again this summer – brining in a new goalkeeper and striker – with Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund arriving at the club, although it will be a while before the latter makes his debut due to injury.
‘Erik ten Hag has done a fantastic job,’ Ferguson told NBC Sports. ‘He’s grabbed it, he’s brought his own players in, I think that was important.
‘If he gets the new centre-forward (Rasmus Hojlund) ready quickly, they will be a really good side. Because that’s what they’ve really lacked in the last few years, a top centre-forward.
‘The rest of the team is very good. There’s great, experienced defenders in Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
‘Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the midfield. There’s a foundation there. That’s always completed by the goalkeeper and the centre-forward.
‘The new goalkeeper is very athletic and we hope the new centre-forward is fit quickly.’
United take on Gary O’Neil’s Wolves in their first game of the new Premier League season.
