Adil Rami has slammed World Cup bad boy Emiliano Martinez and has labelled the Aston Villa goalkeeper ‘the biggest s*** in world football’.
Martinez has received widespread criticism over several incidents following the World Cup final in Qatar as he helped Argentina beat France on penalties.
Martinez mocked Kylian Mbappe in the dressing room after the match and during Argentina’s trophy parade he was seen holding a baby doll with the striker’s face on it.
The 30-year-old was also spotted lowering his Golden Glove trophy to his groin and thrusting it towards the crowd – explaining afterwards that he did it to mock French supporters.
During the penalty shootout, Martinez was also criticised for his unsportsmanlike antics, celebrating wildly in front of Kingsley Coman after saving his spot-kick and throwing the ball away before Aurelien Tchouameni stepped up and missed.
Rami, 36, who plays as a centre-back for Ligue 1 club Troyes and has 36 caps for France – helping them win the previous World Cup in 2018 – was furious with Martinez and said: ‘The biggest s*** in the world of football.
‘The most hated man. Mbappe traumatized them so much that they celebrate the victory against our team more than their World Cup.’
Mbappe scored a hat-trick in the final but it was not enough to secure victory as it ended 3-3 after 120 minutes before Argentina won the shootout.
Rami took another dig at Martinez by posting a picture of Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou on social media with the caption: ‘This is the Golden Glove.’
Morocco stunned the world with an incredible run to the semi-finals but were beaten by eventual runners-up France.
Martinez will now turn his attention back towards the Premier League with Aston Villa hosting Liverpool on Monday.
Unai Emery’s side are 12th in the table after winning five, drawing three and losing seven of their opening 15 games.
