A civil society group, ‘The Osun Masterminds’ on Tuesday, expressed concern over the deployment of a police officer, Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, who was allegedly indicted by the panel that investigated police brutality in the state, as the Chief Security Officer to the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Speaking to journalists in Osogbo at the TOM’s monthly sate of Osun address, the spokesperson for the group, Ayo Ologun, said when it was initially insinuated that Omoyele would be appointed the CSO to the governor, the group rose against the move and petitioned the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Ologun also said Adeleke harbouring an indicted officer as the CSO had sent a worrying signal, adding that the governor may have to answer for all the offences that had been committed by the said officer.

He however said the group would not relent until the right thing was done regarding the appointment.

“We have been raising the alarm over the deployment of Omoyele as the CSO of the new governor because most of the members of this group belong to the panel of the #EndSARS. He was indicted for brutality, killings and other offenses when he led several units of the police in Osun command.

“We petitioned the Police Headquarters in Abuja when we heard about his deployment as the CSO to Adeleke. We put on record the atrocities he committed and weeks after our action, he led a team to Ede and killed two family members. While he was being questioned, he confessed to killing one of them at the police headquarters. Despite that, he has been deployed as the CSO to the governor. We have been seeing him in public with the governor.

“The deployment of Omoyele as the CSO to Adeleke was the cause of a clash between men of the Nigerian police and Department of State Service which led to the withdrawal of personnel. If the police force refuse to do the right thing by not detailing Omoyele as the CSO to Adeleke, it doesn’t mean that other security agencies will not react. They know the indictment hanging on the neck of Omoyele so they won’t feel comfortable sitting down with such a person.

“If the governor chooses to harbor an indicted policeman as the CSO against all advice, then it is worrisome and the governor has a lot to answer regarding the culpability of the said officer. We will not relent until justice is done,” Ologun concluded.
