In response to the recent escalation of violence between the Ifon and Ilobu communities, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has announced a revised curfew, now set from 6 PM to 6 AM daily, effective immediately. This measure aims to mitigate the ongoing conflict and restore peace in the affected areas.

The decision to extend the curfew follows a series of clashes that have reignited tensions between the two communities. Previously, a curfew was imposed, but Governor Adeleke expressed dissatisfaction with the resurgence of violence, prompting the need for stricter measures.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, who conveyed the Governor’s concerns. “His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has expressed unhappiness and dissatisfaction with the breakout of fresh communal crises in Ilobu and Ifon,” Alimi stated in the press release.

To reinforce security, the Governor has ordered a joint security team, comprising personnel from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to maintain a 24-hour surveillance presence in the affected areas. This initiative aims to ensure a zero-tolerance approach to lawlessness and to protect the communities from further violence.

In addition to the curfew, Governor Adeleke has scheduled an urgent stakeholders’ meeting for Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 12 noon. This meeting will include traditional rulers from both communities, specifically the Olufon of Ifon, HRM Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, and the Olobu of Ilobu, HRM Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, as well as other key stakeholders. The discussion will center on finding long-term resolutions to the ongoing conflict.

Governor Adeleke urged all residents and traditional leaders from both communities to pursue peace and coexistence. He warned that any individuals or groups found inciting violence or unrest would face serious consequences.

The state government continues to prioritize the safety and security of its citizens while working diligently to restore harmony in the Ifon and Ilobu communities.
