The Adamawa State Government has received 10 mega shuttle buses at a total cost of N1.06 billion for the transport component of its fuel subsidy removal palliative programme.
The government has also ordered trucks of rice, corn and other items for proposed distribution at 50 percent subsidised prices to the people.
This was disclosed on Monday by the committee charged with handling the palliative programme, which said some quantities of the rice had been received while the rest were being awaited.
Making a comprehensive unveiling of the palliative programme at the Government House in Yola, Secretary to the State Government, Awwal Tukur, who doubles as chairman of the palliative committee, said that through a multi-prong approach, the intervention programme would provide succour in areas of transport as well as subsidised food and non-food items to people in all the 266 wards of the state.
He said the state government procured the 10 Innoson shuttle buses, which, when deployed, will ease the suffering of civil servants, students and other members of the public.
“To ensure that everyone is covered, the distribution of the palliatives will be done in wards, with local government areas with a high number of wards receiving higher packages,” he said.
