The two leading governorship candidates in Adamawa State, Aishatu Ahmed Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ahmadu Fintiri of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have started a war of words over a house allegedly used for thumb printing and stuffing of ballot papers.
People in the Binani camp had started the war Saturday evening when they alleged that their counterparts in Fintiri’s camp were using the house in question to thumb print ballot papers and to stuff the papers into ballot boxes.
“The Binani Governorship Campaign Organization is worried that a private residence behind Muna Hotel at Dougirei in Jimeta, Yola, is currently being used allegedly by the Adamawa State candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the March 18th Governorship election, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to thumbprint and stuff ballot papers in boxes, in a desperate move to rig the ongoing Governorship election,” the Binani group said in a press release signed by Martins Yanatham Dickson, a Member of Media Team of the Binani Campaign Organisation.
The release added, “The campaign organisation has condemned in strong terms the unacceptable rigging machine of desperate politicians, clandestinely struggling to force themselves on Adamawa people.”
In a response seen Sunday morning, however, the Fintiri government described the allegation as “Tantrums of a dead horse” and a monstrous lie.
A statement issued by Fintiri’s Director General of Media and Communications, Solomon Kumanga, said nothing can be further from the truth than the allegation.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the property in question houses the Situation Room of the PDP Presidential and Governorship Campaigns Council for the monitoring, documentation and field location coordination,” the statement said.
Newspot reports that the governorship election from which results are still being awaited is expected to produce either Fintiri who also happens to be the incumbent governor, or Binani who currently represents Adamawa North Senatorial Zone.
Results seen so far suggests that the two are the leading candidates.
