A newborn baby has been found abandoned yet alive on a farm in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa state by a farmer, identified as Dubore.
Dubore found the baby nestled in a carton on his farm during his Sunday morning work.
He promptly informed the village head of Wurya in Gwaram Tsohuwa about the discovery.
Upon receiving the information, the personal assistant to Gwaram Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Tamaji Gwaram, was contacted by the village head about the newborn baby boy.
They took the child to the Divisional Police Officer for further action.
Gwaram said they rushed the baby to the hospital, where his health was confirmed stable.
He said upon learning about the situation, the Chairman directed his team to find a suitable woman to care for the baby.
They, however, found one woman in the vicinity, named Rukayya Aliyu, who willingly agreed to provide care, with the consent of her husband, the district head of Wurya, Malam Aminu Abdul-Hamid.
After finding the caregiver, he said the Chairman ordered them to give the baby a name, and they named him after him, Zaharadden while incorporating his caregiver’s name Aminu.
The baby is now called Zaharaddeen Aminu Gwaram.
Gwaram also said the local government chairman put the woman (caregiver) on a monthly allowance in addition to his promise of supporting her till the end of his tenure as a chairman of Gwaram local government.
The police public relations officer of the Jigawa state police command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident.
Adam said the police had entrusted the baby to the chairman to secure proper care.
