Aaron Wan-Bissaka is now expected to stay at Manchester United after winning over manager Erik ten Hag with the club shelving interest in Wolves star Nelson Semedo as a result.
The right-back’s future at Old Trafford looked bleak after managing just four minutes of first-team football prior to the World Cup break.
While the former Crystal Palace star also suffered with injury and illness, reports in the summer claimed he had been deemed surplus to requirements by ten Hag, with Diogo Dalot emerging as the manager’s firm first-choice option.
With Dalot returning from the World Cup with a hamstring injury, Wan-Bissaka was handed a route back into the side, starting four of United’s six games in that period, helping his side keep clean sheets in each of those appearances.
While Wan-Bissaka was also said to be considering his future but the Daily Mail now report the 25-year-old is expected to remain at the club this month.
While Dalot is expected to return to the starting XI when fit, ten Hag now has a genuine alternative in the Londoner.
The report adds that United were showing interest in Wolves right-back Semedo in the event of selling Wan-Bissaka.
The former Barcelona star is out of contract at the end of the season – although Wolves have the option of extending that – but it was thought the club would be open to selling him this month.
But that interest has cooled for now with Wan-Bissaka back in the manager’s plans.
United have made one signing this month, bringing in Jack Butland on loan from Crystal Palace after Martin Dubravka’a spell at the club was terminated.
The club are also on the brink of signing Netherlands international Wout Weghorst as a temporary solution to their striker shortage.
The 30-year-old will arrive on loan from Burnley after United agreed a compensation package with the Clarets and Beskitas, where he was spending the season on loan.
The chances of the striker featuring against Manchester City appear slim however as United would have had to registered their new signing by noon on Friday.
