A Place In The Sun presenter Laura Hamilton has shared the reality of her autoimmune disorder, which leaves her with severe bruising and bleeding.

The TV star explained that she wanted to take a break from sharing polished Instagram photos to show the affects the disorder has on her body.

In one image, Laura is seen holding up her arm while taking a selfie in the mirror, to reveal bruising on the inner part of her arm.

She wrote in the caption: ‘This week I might have posted a few photos in pretty dresses, but this is the reality of what is underneath and what you can’t see…

‘I have had bruising on my arms and my gums have been bleeding. This is ITP.’

Sharing an insight into what the disorder is, Laura continued: ‘Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an auto immune disorder that can lead to easy or excessive bruising and bleeding. The bleeding results from unusually low levels of platelets — the cells that help blood clot.

‘If you are an ITP sufferer my thoughts are with you. Don’t let it get you down. Follow your dreams. Anything is possible. There is no need to let it hold you back…’

Laura received support from her followers, including Anna Williamson who wrote: ‘Gosh bless you Laura, that looks painful 😣 xxx.’

One follower was able to relate to Laura’s health battle, as they revealed: ‘I am also an ITP sufferer, along with other autoimmune diseases. Thank you for sharing and posting about this, in an unusual way it’s comforting.’

Another revealed: ‘I was diagnosed at 7 years old went through hell as a child but now living comfortably with ITP.’

‘I would never have known you had this, You carry on so well despite struggling with it,’ another supportive fan said.

Laura, 39, previously revealed she first noticed symptoms of ITP when her daughter Talia was just a baby, and she noticed bruising on her legs.

‘At first I wondered if the bruises might have been caused by my diet. I was always someone who bruised quite easily anyway, but it was more than normal,’ she previously told The Mirror.

‘I started trying to diagnose myself and see what was wrong and it came up with all sorts of scary things.’
