PRESS RELEASE:
….and an End to Police Harassment at Rahamaniyya Estate, Utako Abuja.
This is an urgent and emergency call to:
The Inspector-General of Police,
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, Abuja
The Nigerian Human Rights Commission
The Honourable Attorney General of the Federation
The National Assembly of Nigeria
The President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and The Nigerian Citizens to demand for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Chindo Al-Fareed Uche-Okeke, who has been unlawfully detained by the Nigerian Police Force since December 16, 2024.
His arrest, without bail or arraignment, violates his constitutional right to personal liberty. His detention arises from a property dispute involving NABSA Global Investment Limited over Rahamaniyya Estate, Utako, Abuja, which is currently pending before the FCT High Court, Abuja.
We are deeply concerned by credible allegations that some powerful politicians across political parties, including individuals within the National Assembly and the Presidency, are leveraging their influence over the police to orchestrate a campaign of harassment, intimidation, and forceful eviction of the residents of Rahamaniyya Estate. This misuse of state institutions for private gain threatens the rule of law and undermines public trust in Nigeria’s legal and democratic systems.
The Nigerian Police is being used by some Powerful Politicians to arrest, harass and intimidate the residents of this estate in Utako and had the chairman of the estate under custody without trial or charge of any kind since December 16, 2024 till date.
We demand for Immediate and Unconditional Release of Mr. Chindo Al-Fareed Uche-Okeke from illegal detention without further delay and call for Independent Investigation to be Launched for a transparent inquiry into the police officers involved and identify any individuals using political influence to interfere in the dispute.
The IGP should Direct the Nigerian Police Force to cease any further harassment or involvement in this civil matter pending the court’s decision and the police should Respect and allow the Judicial Authority to decide the dispute without executive or legislative interference.
The police must resist the urge to use state apparatus to intimidate the citizens of this country, the police should be guided by the rule of law and obey the court until this matter is determined. We call on every Nigerian to share this press release until it gets to the authority.
