Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land Congratulates New Chief Imam of Ilorin, Seeks United Front Against Insecurity

The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Sheikh Al-Imam Barrister Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has congratulated Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani on his appointment as the new Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the respected Islamic leader described the appointment as well deserved and praised the Emir of Ilorin, , for what he called a wise decision that would further strengthen Islamic leadership within the emirate.

The Grand Chief Imam noted that the emergence of Sheikh Dasuki reflects his years of service to Islam, his scholarly achievements, and his commitment to Islamic education and community development. He said the new Chief Imam possesses the qualities required to provide spiritual guidance and strengthen the faith of the Muslim community.

According to the statement, the appointment has been received with joy by Muslims in Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State, and across Nigeria. The Oyo cleric prayed for Allah’s guidance, wisdom, good health, and success for the new religious leader as he begins his tenure.

Beyond the congratulatory message, Sheikh Akeugberu used the occasion to call for stronger cooperation among religious leaders in addressing Nigeria’s growing security challenges. He said terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, violent extremism, and other criminal activities require collective action from all stakeholders.

He stressed that Imams, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, community leaders, and government institutions must work together to promote peace, justice, and social stability. He added that religious institutions have an important role to play in moral reorientation and in discouraging ideologies that promote violence and division.

The Grand Chief Imam further stated that mosques should continue to serve as centres for peaceful coexistence, community engagement, and the dissemination of authentic Islamic teachings that reject extremism.

He expressed optimism about working closely with the new Chief Imam of Ilorin and other Islamic leaders across the country to advance the cause of Islam, strengthen national unity, and support lawful efforts aimed at improving security and the welfare of Nigerians.

The statement concluded with prayers for a successful and impactful tenure for Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate.
