PDP sets up appeal panels for presidential, governorship, legislative primaries

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has inaugurated appeal panels to entertain petitions and grievances arising from its recently concluded primaries for presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state legislative positions.

The party said the panels were established as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, fairness and internal democratic processes in the selection of candidates.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, explained that the committees would consider complaints lodged by aspirants and stakeholders dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries.

According to him, the panels are expected to examine all appeals and make recommendations in line with the party’s constitution, electoral guidelines and other relevant legal provisions.

“The appeal panels will hear and review appeals from contestants and stakeholders who are dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries. They will also make recommendations in line with the party’s Constitution, Electoral Guidelines and relevant provisions of the law,” he stated.

Mohammed noted that the development reflects the PDP’s determination to ensure a credible and transparent candidate-selection process ahead of future elections.

He disclosed that the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, will lead the appeal panel handling governorship and presidential primary disputes, while former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, is among its members.

The spokesman further revealed that Suleiman Afolagbe will chair the panel responsible for appeals relating to state assembly and National Assembly primaries.

According to the statement, the nine-member panel for legislative primaries is scheduled to sit on June 8 and June 9 at the National Working Committee, NWC, Hall located at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The 24-member governorship and presidential appeals panel is expected to commence its sittings on June 10 at the same venue.
