The Osun State Police Command has launched a high-level investigation into the shooting incident involving the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osogbo Local Government Area, Hon. Ashimiyu Ajibola.
The police disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 11:50 p.m. on June 3, 2026, along the MDS area of Osogbo when two armed men riding on a motorcycle allegedly attacked the PDP chieftain in what authorities described as an apparent attempted murder.
The command said tactical and conventional police teams were immediately deployed to the scene following a distress report.
Police officers subsequently evacuated the victim to a medical facility for treatment. Medical personnel reportedly confirmed that Hon. Ajibola is in stable condition and responding positively to treatment.
The statement added that operational teams have commenced an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects, while preliminary investigations at the scene led to the recovery of exhibits now undergoing forensic examination.
Condemning the attack, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He directed all relevant investigative units to deploy available resources to identify those responsible, ensure their arrest, and facilitate their prosecution.
“The Command wishes to assure members of the public that no stone will be left unturned in the ongoing investigation,” the statement noted.
The police also appealed to residents to remain calm and law-abiding while providing credible information that could assist investigators in tracking down the perpetrators.
The attack has heightened security concerns in Osun State ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, with political stakeholders calling for vigilance and restraint.
