The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors has appealed to Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, to order the reinstatement of two head teachers reportedly suspended over a viral video showing the poor condition of public school classrooms in the state.
FOSAD made the appeal in a statement signed by its President, Dr. Stephen Nwala, and Secretary General, Dr. Uzor Ngoladi.
The group expressed concern over reports that the teachers were suspended indefinitely by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Education after a video surfaced showing pupils learning in classrooms with unfinished block walls, poor furniture and inadequate infrastructure.
According to the forum, the video should not be treated as an embarrassment to be suppressed but as a wake-up call for urgent government action.
FOSAD said punishing teachers for problems largely beyond their control could discourage transparency and accountability within the education sector.
The group noted that many teachers in rural and underserved communities work under difficult conditions with limited resources and poor institutional support.
It urged the Ebonyi State Government to use the incident as an opportunity to improve public school infrastructure across the state rather than blame educators.
FOSAD also called for an independent assessment of public school facilities in Ebonyi State, including classrooms, libraries, laboratories, furniture, sanitation and learning materials.
The forum said such an exercise would help restore public confidence and provide a practical roadmap for meaningful reforms in the education sector.
It further appealed to the state government to prioritise the rehabilitation of schools in rural communities where infrastructure deficits remain severe.
FOSAD said every child, regardless of location or social background, deserves access to safe and dignified learning spaces.
The group urged Governor Nwifuru to demonstrate compassion and statesmanship by restoring the affected teachers and directing immediate intervention in the schools shown in the viral footage.
