Former entertainer and one-time member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Uche Ogbuagu and three women have emerged the People Democratic Party flag bearers for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Their emergence followed the primary election, which took place on May 17, across 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
The winners include Oleka Chinedu, for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency, Peace Adanna Nwadike, for Nkwere/Nwangele/Njaba/Isu Federal Constituency and Olachi Ndidi Iheme for Owerri Federal Constituency.
Addressing Journalists, the party spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, said the emergence of the women demonstrated PDP’s commitment to its constitutional 35% affirmative action policy for women in both elective and appointive political positions under the leadership of the party chairman, Austin Nwachukwu.
Other flag bearers include the President of the Igbo Community in Gboko, Benue State, Chief Samuel Christian Onye, for Okigwe/Onuimo/Isiala Mbano Federal Constituency; Ikenna Emeruem of Ehime Mbano/Ihitte Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency; and Joseph Chukwuma Ikunna for Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency.
The party expressed confidence in the ability of the candidates to win the election given their impeccable character, experience, and proven competence.
Imo PDP further urged leaders and members of the party to rally strongly behind the flag bearers as the party mobilizes support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
