Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn has confirmed that some of its North American facilities were hit by a cyberattack, raising fresh concerns about the vulnerability of global technology supply chains.

The company said its cybersecurity team activated response measures after the incident and that affected factories were gradually returning to normal production. Foxconn did not publicly confirm that ransomware was involved, nor did it verify the full scale of the data-theft claims made by the attackers.

The ransomware group known as Nitrogen has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group alleged that it stole about 8 terabytes of data, covering millions of files, from Foxconn’s systems. Several cybersecurity reports said the claims included internal documents, technical files, schematics, and project information connected to major technology companies.

Foxconn’s facility in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, has drawn particular attention after workers reported network disruptions that affected operations earlier this month. Local reports said the disruption began around May 2 and caused slow recovery across parts of the facility. Foxconn said it had implemented operational measures to maintain production and delivery continuity.

Security analysts cited in multiple reports said the stolen material allegedly included project documents linked to companies such as Google, Intel, Dell, Nvidia, and Apple. However, those claims remain largely based on samples and statements attributed to the hackers. Foxconn has not publicly confirmed the exact categories of files taken or the identity of affected clients.

The incident is especially sensitive because Foxconn is one of the world’s most important contract manufacturers. The company produces electronic components and devices for major global brands, making its systems a valuable target for cybercriminal groups seeking both ransom payments and leverage over supply-chain partners.

The Wisconsin site also has broader economic importance. In November 2025, Reuters reported that Foxconn secured approval for an additional $569 million investment in its Wisconsin operations to support rising demand for AI servers and data infrastructure. That expansion was expected to strengthen U.S. domestic supply chains and create more than 1,300 jobs by 2030.

Cybersecurity experts say attacks on manufacturers are no longer just about stolen data. They can also disrupt production, delay deliveries, expose customer designs, and create uncertainty across multiple industries. In Foxconn’s case, the full commercial impact will depend on whether the hackers’ claims are verified and whether any partner-sensitive information was actually exposed.

For now, the confirmed fact is that Foxconn suffered a cyberattack affecting some North American facilities. The larger claim of 8 terabytes of stolen data and more than 11 million files remains an allegation by the Nitrogen ransomware group, supported by some cybersecurity reporting but not yet fully verified by Foxconn.
