Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Monday night formally consulted Senate President Godswill Akpabio ahead of his anticipated 2027 re-election bid.
The meeting, held in a political atmosphere marked by reconciliation and cooperation among leaders of the state, also featured discussions on support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking during the consultation visit, Governor Eno said the delegation came to appreciate Senator Akpabio for what he described as his continued support and commitment to the development and interest of Akwa Ibom State.
According to the Governor, the visit was also necessary to formally consult the Senate President and seek his blessings and support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Eno stressed the importance of unity among political leaders and assured Akpabio that Akwa Ibom State would support President Tinubu’s second-term bid, support Akpabio’s return as Senate President, and work collectively toward his own re-election effort.
The Governor also appreciated the wife of the Senate President for her support and hospitality during the visit.
Earlier, Director-General of Campaigns, Chief Assam Assam, SAN, described Governor Eno as a hardworking and compassionate leader while praising Akpabio’s national political influence and representation of Akwa Ibom State.
Former Senators Effiong Bob and Emmanuel Ibok Essien also commended the cordial relationship between Governor Eno and Senator Akpabio, describing the growing cooperation among political leaders in the state as unprecedented.
Speaking on behalf of Eket Senatorial District, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem praised Governor Eno’s leadership style and his efforts at promoting inclusiveness, peace, and development through the ARISE Agenda.
The Akwa Ibom APC Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, also commended Akpabio for encouraging party members to remain supportive of Governor Eno.
Responding, Senator Akpabio appreciated Governor Eno and the delegation for the consultation visit and condoled with the Governor over the loss of his wife.
Akpabio described Governor Eno as “humility personified” and commended him for promoting peace and unity across political divides in Akwa Ibom State.
The Senate President also assured the Governor of his support and expressed confidence in his chances ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
He further urged political stakeholders to work toward ensuring overwhelming support for President Tinubu in Akwa Ibom State, stressing that closer collaboration with the Federal Government would benefit the state.
The delegation included Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, Secretary to the State Government Prince Enobong Uwah, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem SAN, commissioners, party leaders, and other political stakeholders.
