The Teachers’ Social Security Scheme, popularly known as the Endwell Scheme, has disbursed over ₦1.7 billion in benefits to more than 6,300 teachers and their next-of-kin between 2022 and 2026, marking one of its strongest performances in three decades of operation.

The figures were unveiled during the 14th State (Biennial) General Meeting held at the Teachers’ House, Oluyole Estate, Ibadan, where the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Comrade Obasola Elijah Olayiwola, reaffirmed the scheme’s financial stability and commitment to meeting its obligations.

Speaking at the parallel Biennial Meeting of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, Chairman Comrade Raji Oladimeji Ismael described the latest financial report as clear evidence that the scheme has entered a new phase of strength, relevance, and sustainability.

He noted that Endwell has operated consistently for 30 years without financial collapse, a testament to its resilience despite early skepticism. According to him, the scheme was created at a time when retiring teachers faced severe hardship due to delayed pensions and gratuities, but has since evolved into a dependable support system for thousands.

“The gloomy days are over. Endwell has weathered storms, survived skepticism, and continues to grow stronger daily,” he said.

Comrade Olayiwola explained that the rise in disbursement reflects both an increase in retiring teachers and a growing subscriber base, driven in part by the recruitment of new teachers under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

He assured contributors of continued financial discipline and sustainability, stating that the Board remains committed to strengthening investment strategies to guarantee long-term returns and consistent benefit payments.

A major highlight of the event was the recognition of founding members and early contributors whose vision laid the foundation for the scheme. Honorees included Comrade Anusat Babatunde Amuda, Comrade Ibrahim Bolomope, Comrade Elijah Olu Abiala, Comrade Suleiman Adediran, Mr. Tade Ipadeola, Mrs. J. L. Latunji, and Alhaji Oladiti Oladapo.

The union described them as pioneers whose foresight transformed Endwell into a lifeline for educators across Oyo State.

Comrade Ismael reiterated that the scheme has consistently delivered Non-Refundable Terminal Benefits (NRTB) and death-in-service compensation over the years, while commending both past and present management teams for sustaining its success.

He also urged newly recruited teachers to enroll, emphasizing that the Endwell Scheme remains one of the most reliable welfare platforms available to educators in the state.
