Luxury fashion house Chanel has sparked widespread online reactions after unveiling a new sandal design that appears to cover only part of the foot.
The footwear was introduced during Chanel’s cruise 2027 collection show in Biarritz, France.
The design features material covering the heel, held together by two tied straps, while leaving most of the foot exposed.
According to reports, the sandal was described as an intentionally incomplete design built around what the brand called a “barefoot heel cap.”
The unusual footwear quickly became a talking point online, with social media users reacting with shock, confusion, and jokes about its practicality.
Chanel Creative Director Matthieu Blazy said the collection drew inspiration from the brand’s 1920s style codes, including sportswear, workwear, and sailors’ uniforms.
Despite mixed reactions to the sandal, the wider collection received attention from fashion critics and celebrities who attended the runway show.
The footwear has not yet been listed for retail sale, and its price remains unknown.
