The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has commended Umo Eno for what he described as purposeful and impactful leadership in Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Governor on April 23, 2024, at the Government House in Uyo, the Defence Minister noted that driving across the state reveals a distinct ambience marked by quality road infrastructure and visible indicators of good governance.
He added that he has been an ardent follower of the ARISE programmes on television, describing them as evidence of a government committed to the welfare of its people.
“My prayer is that others will also watch and see what has been done, and to know that these things are possible; it’s not rocket science,” Musa said.
The Defence Minister, who was in the state to deliver the convocation lecture at the Combined Convocation Ceremony of Akwa Ibom State University, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the warm reception and the opportunity to deliver the lecture.
He observed that Akwa Ibom remains peaceful because its people feel loved and cared for, while expressing hope that Nigeria, particularly the northern region, will regain lasting peace.
On national security, Musa praised Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts, noting that security management requires both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
“The kinetic means the use of force, while the non-kinetic is good governance, which you are demonstrating here in Akwa Ibom,” he explained.
He further stressed that security is a collective responsibility and urged citizens to collaborate with authorities by reporting suspicious activities to enhance national safety.
Musa also commended the Governor for supporting the 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and other security formations in the state, assuring continued commitment by security agencies to safeguard the nation.
In his response, Governor Eno thanked the Defence Minister for accepting to deliver the convocation lecture and praised his contributions to national security, describing him as one of the most admired generals in the country.
The Governor also condoled the Minister over the loss of military personnel in various parts of the country and appealed for increased support to security formations in Akwa Ibom to strengthen stability.
He attributed the prevailing peace in the state to strong collaboration among security agencies and reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining such partnerships.
Other officials present during the visit included the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakeneyi, Head of Service Mrs. Elsie Peters, Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor Mr. Aniefiok Johnson, and members of the State Executive Council.
