Pelumi Olajengbesi, a legal practitioner and spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, has alleged that former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola was deemed “not marketable” by his party ahead of the 2026 governorship election, leading to the emergence of another candidate.
Speaking during an appearance on a radio programme in Ogun State, Olajengbesi claimed that Oyetola did not contest the upcoming election due to internal party assessments of his political standing following his tenure in office.
He further alleged that the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State was not the outcome of an open and competitive process, but rather the result of imposition, naming Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji as the beneficiary of that process.
According to Olajengbesi, several aspirants had shown interest in contesting the party’s ticket, but claimed that internal dynamics prevented a level playing field. He also criticised what he described as the treatment of some senior party figures during the selection process.
The campaign spokesperson framed the August 15 governorship election as a direct contest between the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the opposition, expressing confidence that voters would determine the outcome at the polls.
Olajengbesi also commented on the broader political landscape, stating that the election would reflect the will of the people of Osun State, while rejecting suggestions that external influence would determine the APC’s internal decisions.
No official response had been issued by representatives of the APC or the individuals mentioned as of the time of filing this report.
