The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has called on Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to urgently expand infrastructure at Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) to address growing pressure on facilities.
The motion, moved by Deputy Speaker KufreAbasi Edidem, praised TETFund’s nationwide impact in improving tertiary education through projects, research support, and staff development.
However, lawmakers raised concerns over overcrowded classrooms due to increased student enrollment and new faculties, urging the construction of more lecture theatres and classroom blocks—especially at the university’s permanent site in Ikot Akpaden.
Supporting voices including Sampson Idiong, Mfon Idung, and Prince Akpabio emphasized the urgency and called for collaboration with the state government.
Speaker Udeme Otong approved the resolution, directing that appreciation be sent to TETFund and Governor Umo Eno while formally requesting immediate intervention.
