Donald Trump has declared that the ongoing war with Iran is nearing completion, even as he warned that the United States is prepared to escalate military operations in the coming weeks if necessary.
In a rare prime-time address from the White House, Trump described the conflict as largely successful, stating that U.S. forces had significantly degraded Iran’s military capabilities, including its ballistic missile systems, drone operations, air force, naval strength, and parts of its industrial infrastructure.
“Tonight I’m pleased to say that these core strategic objectives are nearing completion,” Trump said, adding that the United States intends to “finish the job” swiftly.
Despite the optimistic tone, the president signaled that further military action could occur within two to three weeks. He warned that if diplomatic efforts fail, the United States could target Iran’s critical infrastructure, including electricity generation facilities, in a coordinated escalation.
The remarks come amid ongoing efforts to balance military pressure with diplomacy. Trump noted that discussions are continuing but emphasized that the United States would not hesitate to intensify operations if a resolution is not reached.
On the Iranian side, President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a message directed at the American public, stating that Iran does not seek conflict with the United States and warning that continued confrontation would carry significant human and economic costs.
The conflict has already had global economic repercussions. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments, has driven a sharp rise in energy prices, with crude oil surging significantly since the onset of hostilities.
Financial markets reacted cautiously to Trump’s address, with rising bond yields, a stronger dollar, and declining equity futures reflecting investor uncertainty over the possibility of further escalation.
The war, now entering its second month, also presents growing political risks domestically in the United States. Public opinion remains divided, with concerns mounting over the economic impact and the potential for a prolonged conflict.
Trump, however, urged Americans to remain patient, comparing the timeline of the Iran conflict to longer historical wars and emphasizing that U.S. objectives are within reach.
The situation remains fluid, with both military and diplomatic developments expected to shape the next phase of the conflict in the coming weeks.
