ESUIST Matriculates 188 Students

The Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science and Technology, Oferekpe-Izzi, on Saturday, 14th March, 2026, held its maiden matriculation ceremony at the institution’s permanent site.

The occasion witnessed the matriculation of one hundred and eighty-eight (188) freshmen of the institution.

The ceremony, which was graced by the presence of the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, also had two former Governors of the State, Dr. Sam Egwu and Chief Martin Elechi, in attendance.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Ernest Ituma Egba, congratulated the matriculating students and charged them to be of good conduct as the pioneer students of the university. He said, as new students of the institution, they should aim to achieve their primary goal, which is to attain excellence in the fields of science and technology.

Similarly, the State Governor, in his remarks, enjoined the students not to waste the unique opportunity granted to them to study at the new university noting that many would pray to have such good fortune. He subsequently announced a scholarship package for all the pioneering 188 students up to their final year. He, therefore, urged the new students to be serious as well as put in their best at all times.

While commending the Governor for his laudable gesture, the Vice-Chancellor warned that the university will not entertain carry-over of courses at any level. He stated that if any student has a carry-over in his or her examination, such will attract extra punitive charges. He advised the students to be up and doing, as the university is ready to offer them the best in terms of quality education.

The JAMB Ag. State Coordinator, Mrs. Doris O. Enoch, on behalf of the Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, congratulated the new students and advised them to abide by all school rules and regulations as well as project a good image of the institution. She also urged the management of the institution to build lasting legacies that will uphold the intent and purpose of the institution while coming out with landmark innovations in line with the mandate of the institution.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a newly-invented sanitary pad incinerator by the institution to the Governor for onward transmission to the wife of the State Governor.
