The Accord Media Centre has issued a strongly worded statement criticising Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, accusing both figures of actions it claims are politically divisive and damaging to party cohesion.
In the statement dated March 21, 2026, the group alleged that the conduct of the minister and his preferred candidate has contributed to internal tensions within the Osun APC, warning that such actions risk undermining broader political support ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
The media centre further claimed that the duo’s approach to party leadership and candidate selection has alienated key stakeholders within the party, describing their political strategy as counterproductive at a critical time.
According to the statement, some political actors are concerned that ongoing disputes within the APC in Osun State could weaken the party’s electoral standing. The group also referenced what it described as growing grassroots support for incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, citing backing from various civil and professional groups across the state.
The Accord Media Centre maintained that political actors within the state should prioritize unity and strategic coordination, particularly in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who remains a central figure in the party’s national outlook.
It called on Oyetola and Oyebamiji to adopt a more conciliatory and collaborative approach, emphasizing the need to strengthen party structures rather than deepen internal divisions.
The statement reflects the intensifying political atmosphere in Osun State as stakeholders continue to position themselves ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election, with competing narratives emerging from different political camps.
