The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for a strengthened partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) as part of efforts to accelerate ongoing police reforms and improve operational efficiency nationwide.

The call was made during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, alongside members of the Fund’s Board of Directors, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The meeting provided an opportunity for both institutions to review existing collaborations and chart a clearer path toward reform-driven outcomes.

Speaking during the visit, Sheidu reaffirmed the Trust Fund’s commitment to supporting the Police through practical and targeted interventions. He noted that the NPTF has already delivered more than 100 training programmes benefiting over 13,000 officers, while also executing over 170 infrastructure projects across the country. According to him, the Fund remains focused on expanding initiatives in housing, healthcare, and smart policing systems to strengthen operational readiness.

In his response, IGP Disu emphasized that a more coordinated and strategically aligned partnership with the NPTF is essential to achieving meaningful reforms within the Force. He described personnel welfare as a critical pillar of policing effectiveness, stressing that improved housing, accessible healthcare, and timely welfare benefits are necessary to maintain morale and discipline among officers.

The IGP also highlighted the need for targeted support for junior-ranked officers, noting that they bear the brunt of day-to-day policing responsibilities. He urged the NPTF to prioritize structured welfare programmes for this category of personnel, describing such interventions as key to building a more resilient and motivated workforce.

Reaffirming his broader vision, Disu stated that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to becoming more responsive, technologically driven, and citizen-focused. He added that sustained collaboration with institutions like the NPTF will play a decisive role in shaping the future of policing in Nigeria.
