Nigeria, with its vast coastline along the Atlantic Ocean, possesses the natural advantage to compete in this global maritime economy. One of the most promising opportunities to expand this advantage is the proposed Ibom Deep Sea Port in Akwa Ibom State.
The Ibom Deep Sea Port represents far more than a maritime project. It is a strategic economic gateway capable of strengthening Nigeria’s position in global trade while stimulating regional development in the South-South and across the country. Its realization will create new corridors of commerce, reduce pressure on existing ports, and unlock the vast potential of the blue economy.
Nigeria’s major seaports have for decades carried the burden of the nation’s import and export activities. As trade volumes continue to rise, the need for additional deep-water facilities becomes increasingly urgent.
