Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has sharply criticized the early Saturday military operation carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, describing it as a “dangerous and unnecessary gamble with American lives.”
In a statement, Harris accused President Donald Trump of dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want, warning that American troops are being placed in harm’s way for what she described as a “war of choice.”
Harris said she is firmly opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, arguing that the operation jeopardizes stability in the Middle East and undermines America’s standing in the world. While acknowledging the threat posed by Iran, she stressed that military escalation is not the right way to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
She also accused President Trump of breaking campaign promises to end wars rather than start them, disputing past claims by the administration that Iran’s nuclear program had already been neutralized. According to Harris, the unfolding conflict reflects recklessness rather than strength.
The former vice president raised constitutional concerns, emphasizing that the U.S. Constitution requires congressional authorization before the country can enter a war. Even if such approval were obtained, she argued, it would not make the action wise, justified, or supported by the American public.
Calling on Congress to act, Harris urged lawmakers to use all available powers to prevent further escalation and deeper U.S. involvement in the conflict. She concluded by offering prayers for American servicemen and women, while insisting they deserve leadership that approaches matters of war and peace with steadiness, discipline, and restraint.
Her remarks add to intensifying political debate in Washington over the legality, strategy, and potential human cost of the expanding U.S.–Israel military confrontation with Iran.
