Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran, stating the US would respond with unprecedented force if Tehran retaliated further for joint US-Israeli strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard had threatened its “most-intense offensive operation” ever against Israel and American bases following the death of the 86-year-old Khamenei.
The US and Israel described their initial attacks as “pre-emptive” strikes aimed at a Tehran government believed to be developing nuclear weapons, with talks on the issue having recently ended without agreement.
Following Saturday’s attacks, Iran launched retaliatory strikes reported across several Gulf countries, including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.
Sir Keir Starmer convened the Government’s emergency Cobra committee, spoke with Donald Trump, and confirmed the UK had deployed aircraft for co-ordinated regional defensive operations, while urging Iran to seek a negotiated solution.
