The Senate of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto on Wednesday, 25th February, 2026 confirmed the appointment of Prof. Shehu Usman Gulumbe as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor, marking a key development in the institution’s academic leadership.
This development was a result of the Senate meeting held today, Wednesday 25th February, 2026, during which members deliberated on key administrative and academic appointments. Following thorough discussions , the Senate confirmed Prof. Shehu Usman Gulumbe as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor , reflecting the university’s commitment to maintaining high standards in teaching, research and academic governance.
A distinguished Professor of Statistics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Prof. Gulumbe has made notable contributions to multivariate analysis, statistical computing, and applied mathematical research. He presently serves as Director of the UDUS Consultancy Service and is regarded among the institution’s leading researchers.
Prof. Gulumbe has contributed to scholarly research in multivariate statistics and applied data analysis, including studies addressing climate change impacts in Northern Nigeria using co-kriging techniques. His work reflects a blend of theoretical development and practical application in the mathematical sciences.
The office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor is responsible for supervising academic programmes, research initiatives, admissions processes and overall teaching standards. His appointment is expected to contribute to strengthening academic administration and sustaining institutional growth.
