This is a sensitive discussion and I would like you to read with an open mind.
This post is inspired by a conversation I was having in the comments section with one of my respected lecturers at the department of political science, UNIZIK Nkolika Obianyo .
I would like to use this to show us something important.
So you understand the factors that influence the political behavior of leaders, not even in politics alone.
Even in the business sectors.
Appointments as CEO are never by qualification alone.
Remember during the US presidential election that produced Donald Trump, Elon Musk made the shortest and most viral tweet in the history of Twitter?
He said “Politics is tribal”.
Now, this statement is from the realistic school of thought. He is seeing it how it is .
Not how it ought to be.
But if we begin to look at this from the moralistic viewpoint, we’ll say “why would presidents be appointing their kinsmen? Appointments should be based on qualifications alone.”
But is that really true?
Even God Himself doesn’t promote men based on qualifications alone but on His mercy and at His pleasure.
If it was so, David wouldn’t have been king. He was a shepherd boy from a poor family. He had no royal blood.
Moses wouldn’t have been chosen to lead Israel. He was from a poor home and disabled in speech.
Joseph wouldn’t have emerged as Governor of Egypt. He was a slave boy from a foreign land.
Mary wouldn’t have been chosen to be the mother of Jesus. She was a virgin from a poor family.
So you see?
Promotions and appointments at that level are at the pleasure of God, the king or the president.
But notice something important.
Kingmakers don’t promote you because you’re qualified.
They promote you and empower you because you can protect their interests and because they can trust you.
You should know that the corridor of power is crowded but lonely.
Everyone is fighting to protect their own interests at the expense of the president.
Everyone is looking out for their own interests.
So the president most times is lonely.
His earnest desire is to have men who are bound to protect him not for just what they’ll gain but by shared bloodline.
That’s why they seek out their kinsmen.
Or they go into spiritual oaths with the men who work for them.
He knows that if you an outsider betrays him, your kinsmen will honour you.
No consequences. So you have nothing to fear .
Remember the igbo coup plotters who executed the January 15 coup were celebrated by Igbos?
But if a Yoruba man betrays Tinubu he won’t come back home.
If his occult member tries to betray him he’ll die.
Till now Aregbesola, Osinbajo and others are yet to be accepted by the Yorubas.
S L Akintola is till this day hated by most Yorubas because he is seen as the man who betrayed Awolowo.
By nature every creature gravitates towards its kind.
Don’t you notice that black Americans like to marry black Men or women?
Whites like to marry whites?
Chinese Americans like to marry Chinese Americans?
Even you as an Igbo man is still not married because you’re looking for an Igbo girl from Anambra 😂 that knows how to cook Ofe Akwu.
Look around the government of Trump and look at the government of Obama.
They surrounded themselves with their kind.
Imagine if Tinubu didn’t have Yoruba people around him while those Northern officers around the NSA planned the coup?
Tinubu would have been a dæd man now .
Why didn’t those Igbo coup plotters in 1966 involve Northerners in their plans?
They had more Igbos because there was a united sense of purpose.
Involving Northern soldiers would have spoiled it .
See, the strongest cord is the cord of blood and family.
The same way you trust your family members ordinarily, when you climb up there you won’t change.
Even me…
So presidents surround themselves with their kinsmen because they want security.
