Massive Turnout as Women Sensitisation Tour Berths in Uyo

Women stakeholders in Uyo Local Government Area on Wednesday converged at Ibom Hall for the Women Sensitisation Tour on Civic Responsibilities, a statewide initiative aimed at promoting women’s participation in governance and electoral processes.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi PhD, who led the ARISE Women Team, charged women to take ownership of their civic responsibilities through voter registration, acquisition of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and active participation in governance processes.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, to women inclusion, empowerment and grassroots development, noting that women remain critical partners in sustaining peace and democratic stability. She further urged them to remain united and supportive of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In her remarks, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Obareki, conveyed the governor’s appreciation for the enthusiasm and solidarity consistently demonstrated by women across the state.

She encouraged women in Uyo to translate their support into meaningful civic and political engagement, noting that the present administration places high premium on the wellbeing of women and families.

Also speaking, the Wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Inemesit Uwah, PhD, alongside the Wife of the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Mrs. Akaninyene Uwemedimo, appreciated the support of men in Uyo for serving as strong pillars to women, while encouraging sustained unity and commitment to government programmes aimed at improving family welfare and community development.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Inibehe Silas, emphasised the importance of proper documentation, urging women to complete electronic registration, obtain their PVCs and National Identification Numbers (NIN) to enable full participation in elections and government programmes.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council and Akwa Ibom State ALGON Chairman, Dr Uwemedimo E. Udo, warmly received the delegation and assured that women in Uyo Local Government Area remain solidly behind Governor Umo Eno and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He noted that Uyo has recorded significant progress in grassroots sensitisation campaigns and expressed confidence that the people would continue to support the Governor in recognition of developmental projects executed across the local government, as well as in appreciation of the appointment of an Uyo indigene as Secretary to the State Government.

Dr. Udo further declared the readiness of Uyo women to support and pray for the President of the Senate, Godswill Obot Akpabio, describing him as a pride of Akwa Ibom State.

The event witnessed massive participation of women leaders, stakeholders, traditional leaders and grassroots mobilisers who pledged sustained support for the ARISE Agenda.
