Speaking on behalf of the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, the Head of the Commission’s Constituency Project Tracking and Local Government Initiative, Bello Idris Bakori, explained that the workshop is part of the Accountability and Corruption Prevention Programme for Local Governments (ACPP-LG).

According to him, the initiative is structured to help councils strengthen internal control systems, improve transparency in financial operations, and integrate ethical procedures into everyday local government administration.

Bakori stressed that the workshop is intended to move beyond theory, noting that it is focused on translating knowledge into measurable reforms that improve accountability and service delivery.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Alhaji Amidu Takuro.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline, and professionalism in the management of local government resources, describing these principles as essential for sustainable community development.

Technical sessions on the first day covered best practices in financial reporting, strengthening internal audit and control mechanisms, and effective asset management. Subsequent sessions focus on procurement controls, fraud risk assessment, tax reforms for revenue optimisation, strategic budgeting, and ethical standards in public service.

The programme will conclude with a session on the legal provisions of the ICPC Act, 2000. Participants who complete the training will receive certificates.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to reinforce accountability frameworks at the local government level and curb corruption in public administration.
