The Ikot Akpan Abia village in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has taken a decisive step toward strengthening access to education with the successful hosting of its Educational Foundation Programme, held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the village council Town Hall.
The initiative, organized by the Ikot Akpan Abia Village Council, brought together community leaders, parents, students, and development advocates in a shared commitment to investing in the future of the village through education.
Speaking at the event, Joy Solomon Essiet, President of the Pure Wisdom Counseling Foundation, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of community-driven educational support as a powerful expression of love, responsibility, and long-term development.
As part of the programme, exercise books and other essential writing materials were distributed to students across the six families that make up the village. In addition, selected indigenes of the community currently studying in higher institutions received ₦20,000 each to support their educational expenses.
Addressing attendees, the Village Head, Chief Patrick Jerome, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to sustaining the initiative, announcing that the Educational Support Programme will now be held annually to ensure continuous assistance to students at all levels.
According to Chief Jerome, investing in education remains one of the most effective ways to secure the village’s future, foster unity, and empower the next generation to thrive academically and socially.
Participants at the event described the programme as timely and impactful, noting that beyond material support, it reinforces a culture of collective responsibility and shared progress.
