The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, as the date for its National Convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja, where members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other statutory organs of the party will be elected.

This decision was part of resolutions reached at the 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting of the PDP held on Monday, February 2, 2026, in Abuja.

Caretaker Committee’s Legitimacy Reaffirmed

The NEC reaffirmed the legitimacy and authority of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu serving as Secretary. According to the communique, the Caretaker Committee remains the only lawful national administrative organ of the party pending the National Convention.

Congress Timetable Approved

As part of preparations for the transition to an elected leadership, NEC approved the following schedule for congresses nationwide:

• Ward Congresses – February 2026
• Local Government Congresses – February 2026
• State Congresses – March 2026

The National Caretaker Committee was directed to issue detailed guidelines and modalities for the conduct of the congresses in line with party rules and INEC regulations.

Tenure Extension Confirmed

NEC also approved the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee and affected State and Zonal Caretaker Committees pending the successful conduct of the National Convention and subsequent congresses.

The Caretaker Committee has been mandated to immediately activate convention sub-committees and commence full administrative, logistical, and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent and credible convention process.

The March convention is expected to shape the internal leadership direction of the PDP ahead of intensifying political alignments toward the 2027 general elections.
