‎At a time when Nigerians are yearning for governance that is not only visionary but practical, Governor Umo Eno’s stewardship of Akwa Ibom State is steadily offering a compelling counter-narrative. Two and a half years into his administration, the verdict from both policy watchers and everyday citizens is becoming clearer: this is a government driven by focus, structure and measurable outcomes, firmly anchored on the ARISE Agenda.

‎Speaking recently on ARISE Akwa Ibom on Comfort 95.1 FM, the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, aptly described Governor Eno’s leadership as “focused and phenomenal.” Beyond the rhetoric, what stands out is how each sector of governance has been deliberately aligned to stimulate economic growth, deepen social stability and prepare Akwa Ibom for long-term prosperity.

‎Under the ARISE Agenda, agriculture has moved from subsistence rhetoric to strategic investment. The Ibom Model Farms, inspired by the technology-driven Songhai model, signal a shift towards modern, mechanised and youth-friendly agriculture. Complementing this is the Tree Crop Revolution, a bold attempt to revive oil palm production while empowering farmers with improved seedlings and modern processing tools.

‎The Home Garden Scheme further decentralizes food production, reducing household food costs and strengthening food security. By returning the Akwa Ibom Agricultural Development Programme (AKADEP) to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Governor Eno has restored institutional coordination to the sector. The economic implication is clear: a revitalised agricultural value chain that creates jobs, boosts agro-processing and reduces dependence on food imports.

‎Economic growth does not happen in isolation; it travels on roads, schools and hospitals. Governor Eno’s rural development drive, cutting across all 31 local government areas, has focused on opening up communities through rural roads, model schools and primary healthcare facilities. These investments reduce rural-urban migration, improve productivity and attract small-scale investments to previously neglected areas.

‎Equally impactful is the administration’s support for small and medium enterprises through targeted funding unveiled during Town Square Meetings across federal constituencies. By taking empowerment directly to the people, the government is stimulating grassroots entrepreneurship, increasing disposable income and expanding the local economy.

‎No economy thrives without peace. Akwa Ibom’s sustained calm, reinforced through Governor Eno’s collaboration with security agencies, has positioned the state as one of Nigeria’s safer investment destinations. The hitch-free 32 Days of Christmas Unplugged celebrations were not just cultural spectacles; they were proof that safety, tourism and commerce can coexist. Stability breeds confidence, and confidence attracts capital.

‎The ARISE Agenda recognises that people are the true wealth of any state. The conversion of the College of Education into a full-fledged university, alongside the steady operations of Akwa Ibom State University and the Polytechnic, reflects a long-term commitment to human capital development. By investing in education, the administration is preparing a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation, productivity and competitiveness in the years ahead.

‎Eno’s declaration of a State of Emergency in healthcare was both symbolic and practical. The recall of retired health professionals, recruitment of 2,000 new personnel and the construction of the Ibom International Hospital along the Medical Corridor point to a healthcare system being rebuilt for efficiency and access.

‎The expansion of the State Health Insurance Scheme has reduced out-of-pocket expenses for citizens, improved workforce health and indirectly boosted productivity. A healthier population is a stronger economy, and this understanding underpins the Governor’s health reforms.

‎Perhaps one of the most visionary pillars of the ARISE Agenda is tourism. The ARISE Palm Resort, rising from a once-abandoned site, redefines Akwa Ibom’s tourism narrative. With facilities ranging from an artificial lake and golf course to leisure parks and hospitality suites, the resort is poised to create jobs, attract visitors and generate non-oil revenue.

‎Tourism, when properly harnessed, stimulates ancillary industries, transport, entertainment, hospitality and crafts, multiplying economic benefits across communities.

‎What truly differentiates Governor Umo Eno’s leadership is his insistence on accountability. Akwa Ibom’s State Executive Council meeting on the first working day of the year, followed by mandatory ministerial stewardship scorecards and project projections, sends a powerful message: governance is about results, not excuses.

‎In aligning vision with discipline, compassion with structure, and development with accountability, Governor Umo Eno is not merely implementing policies, he is institutionalising a culture of performance under the ARISE Agenda.

‎As Nigeria grapples with economic uncertainty, Akwa Ibom’s experience under Governor Umo Eno offers a lesson worth national and international attention: when leadership is focused and people-centred, development is not a slogan, it becomes a lived reality.
