The Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) Media Fronts has dismissed claims by the Osun State Government that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, was involved in the half-salary, also known as modulated salary, regime in the state.

In a press statement issued on Monday and signed by its Coordinator, Adebayo Adedeji, the media group described the allegation, attributed to the spokesperson of Governor Ademola Adeleke, as misleading and historically inaccurate.

According to the statement, the modulated salary regime began in June 2015, while Oyebamiji was appointed Commissioner for Finance in May 2017, a gap of nearly two years. The group argued that it is illogical to describe Oyebamiji as an “architect” of a policy that predated his appointment.

The AMBO Media Fronts further stated that shortly after Oyebamiji assumed office as Commissioner for Finance under the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, the half-salary regime was discontinued and full salary payments to civil servants resumed, despite severe fiscal constraints at the time. It described this development as evidence of his financial discipline and worker-friendly approach to governance.

The statement also alleged that the individual who designed the half-salary policy is currently serving as the Chief Economic Adviser to Governor Adeleke, describing attempts to link the policy to Oyebamiji as hypocritical and dishonest.

Defending Oyebamiji’s youth credentials, the media group said that during his tenure as Commissioner for Finance, bursaries were paid regularly to Osun students and school fees across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions were kept at affordable levels to ensure access to education.

In contrast, it accused the current administration of imposing exorbitant tuition fees in state-owned institutions, claiming that students at Osun State University and the University of Ilesa now pay up to ₦1.5 million, making them among the most expensive public universities in the country.

The AMBO Media Fronts further criticised the Adeleke administration for allegedly earning close to ₦1 trillion in revenue within three years without easing the financial burden on parents or students. It also accused the government of sacking about 1,500 teachers recruited under the previous administration and failing to recruit new teachers after collecting application fees from over 32,000 applicants.

According to the statement, these actions have worsened teacher shortages in public schools and undermined the quality of education in the state.

Reaffirming Oyebamiji’s political agenda, the group said youth welfare, access to education, and economic opportunity remain central to his governorship programme, adding that he is committed to securing a better future for young people in Osun State.

The statement concluded with confidence that Oyebamiji would prioritise these goals if elected governor in November.
