🔴 Breaking News:

Aloy Ejimakor, a lawyer to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has said the legal circumstances surrounding Kanu’s case are fundamentally different from that of Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro.

Ejimakor stated this in a post on his X handle on Saturday, while reacting to comparisons between the two cases.

According to him, Maduro’s situation falls within the context of international law relating to acts of war, describing the Venezuelan leader as an “alien enemy” who was legally captured in that circumstance.

In contrast, Ejimakor said Kanu is a private citizen who was illegally renditioned, arguing that his arrest and transfer to Nigeria amounted to a criminal act carried out by a state.

He maintained that, in law, the two cases are not comparable, insisting that Kanu’s situation raises serious concerns about due process and the rule of law.

He wrote: “At law, there’s a significant difference between what happened to Nicolas Maduro & Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Whereas, Maduro is an “alien enemy”, legally ‘captured’ in an act of war; #MNK is a private citizen, illegally renditioned through a criminal conduct by a State.”

Newspot recalls that Kanu was recently sentenced to life in jail after he was convicted of terrorism charges brought against him by the Nigerian government.
