President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has criticized former presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying he has been trapped by his own political ambition.

Dare argued that Obi’s decision to leave the Labour Party, LP, for the African Democratic Congress, ADC, failed to create any significant impact on Nigeria’s political landscape.

In a statement titled, ‘Imprisoned by ambition: Welcome to 2027, Peter Obi’s reckless misreading of politics and power’, Dare dismissed the defection as inconsequential and predictable.

According to him, if Obi’s move to the ADC was meant to shake the political space, it fell completely flat.

Rather than generating excitement or momentum, Dare said the development was greeted with indifference, noting that it followed a familiar pattern Nigerians have seen before.

He described Obi’s political narrative as exhausted, adding that the switch to ADC did not signal a fresh direction but instead marked the end of a worn-out strategy.

Dare also accused Obi of using the moment to launch routine attacks against President Tinubu, whom he described as vastly superior in political influence, experience, and historical relevance.

He stated that Tinubu leads through governance and policy rather than public outbursts, manipulation, or populist rhetoric.

The presidential aide suggested that Obi’s comments reflected a misplaced sense of self-importance, arguing that his presidential aspirations were not supported by strong democratic credentials or a carefully built national coalition that reflects Nigeria’s political diversity.
