President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a high-powered Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to address internal disagreements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Lagos and is composed of governors of the ruling party, members of the Federal Executive Council, and other key stakeholders. It is chaired by the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, with Muiz Banire, former National Legal Adviser of the APC, serving as Member and Secretary.
Members of the committee include Senator Adamu Aliero; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; and Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Bassey Otu of Cross River State, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State.
Also named as members are Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna State and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, former Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Mai Mala Buni expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the committee and assured party leadership that the assignment would be carried out with dedication and responsibility. He said the committee would engage in broad consultations and strategic engagements to develop a comprehensive and result-oriented framework for resolving conflicts within the party.
According to him, the committee will focus on proactive solutions, identify potential threats to party cohesion, and ensure that aggrieved members feel a genuine sense of inclusion and renewed hope. He also urged members not to allow personal interests or sentiments to override the collective interest of the party.
The inauguration follows President Tinubu’s remarks at the 15th National Executive Committee meeting of the APC held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, where he emphasized the need for unity, tolerance, and accommodation within the ruling party. He reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on progressive ideals, broad-based participation, and respect for diversity of opinion.
President Tinubu stressed that the survival and strength of Nigeria’s democracy depend on resilience and inclusiveness, calling on party leaders to place cohesion at the heart of their political engagement as the party looks ahead to the next electoral cycle.
