He said what was playing out in Nigeria currently was the the audacity of armed groups in their operations.

Farotimi recounted a troubling and harrowing incident involving a notorious bandit leader named Jankare, who was linked to the murder of ACP Aminu Dahir, a police officer whose death caused significant concern within security circles.

He pointed out that betrayal within the police contributed to the officer’s vulnerability, which ultimately enabled the bandits to carry out the attack.

Farotimi said aftermath was distressing, as the bandits removed ACP Dahir’s police uniform and, in a shocking act, Jankare later wore this uniform during official peace talks with the government. The uniform, still adorned with the officer’s name, represented the alarming level of confidence, arrogance and influence these criminals had gained.

“This situation left everyone speechless,” Farotimi remarked. “To witness someone attending a peace dialogue in the uniform of a deceased officer, allegedly killed by the same group, is unprecedented and carries both psychological and symbolic weight.”

Farotimi revealed that during these peace meetings, the militants controlled the agenda, insisting that no police officers be present at the venues.

officers he said were forbidden from wearing their uniforms. He pointed out that this demand illustrated the degree of control the armed groups aimed to assert over government proceedings.

“This clearly indicates the audacity of these groups,” Farotimi stated. “It’s alarming that they are imposing conditions for peace talks, effectively dictating how government representatives should present themselves at official engagements. This reflects a concerning shift in power dynamics regarding national security.”

The situation he concluded highlighted the complex dilemma the Nigerian government faced in negotiating with armed groups while trying to uphold law and order.
