The head of Tesla’s Cybertruck program, Siddhant Awasthi, has announced his departure from the electric vehicle giant after more than eight years of service, calling it “one of the hardest decisions of my life.”
In a heartfelt post shared on LinkedIn late Sunday night, Awasthi reflected on his journey from an intern to one of Tesla’s most prominent young leaders. “Eight years ago, when I started as an intern, I never dreamed I’d one day have the opportunity to lead the Cybertruck program and bring it to reality,” he wrote.
Awasthi’s tenure at Tesla was marked by a series of high-impact roles, including leadership of the Model 3 program since July 2025 and earlier contributions to Giga Shanghai, vehicle electronics, and wireless architecture development. He played a central role in ramping up production for Model 3 and delivering the long-awaited Cybertruck—an engineering feat that became one of Tesla’s most distinctive products.
He expressed deep appreciation for Elon Musk and his colleagues, describing the experience as “an absolute privilege filled with mostly high-intensity days—working alongside talented, driven, and truly rockstar colleagues.”
“Tesla vehicles are incredibly complex systems that often don’t get the credit they deserve,”
Awasthi said, adding that he’s
“witnessed firsthand how they’ve changed lives—for our customers, my friends, and my family—adding real value and improving safety.”
Awasthi’s exit comes at a turbulent time for Tesla, which is grappling with a U.S. safety probe, an ongoing legal battle over Musk’s pay package, and a three-year sales low in China, its second-largest market after the United States.
While Awasthi did not specify his next move, he hinted that “the next chapter” would be equally exciting. His departure marks a notable leadership shift within Tesla’s engineering ranks as the company continues its global expansion and prepares for new product lines amid market headwinds.
