Abuja—The Federal Capital Territory will host over 500 leading journalists and media executives as the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) holds its 2025 Annual Editors’ Conference on November 12 and 13.

According to a statement signed by NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will declare the conference open at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall, Abuja. The conference will thereafter continue at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre, Jahi.

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, alongside the Chairman of Arise Media Group and ThisDay Newspapers, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, will serve as Chairmen of the event.

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, will deliver the keynote address on the conference theme:
“Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors.”

A sub-theme titled “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027” will also frame discussions ahead of the next general elections.

The Guild emphasized that this year’s conference comes at a crucial time, as Nigeria continues to grapple with the challenges of governance, economic stability and the need to rebuild trust in institutions.

  • Prof. Awa Kalu, SAN
    Topic: “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics.”
  • Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim (HOD, Political Science & IR, University of Abuja)
    Topic: “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.”
  • Gen. Lucky Irabor (Rtd.), Former Chief of Defence Staff
    Topic: “Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities.”
  • Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Baze University
    Topic: “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and the Credibility Gap.”

The second day will also feature an Executive Session, where editors will engage directly with business leaders, policymakers and government officials on national priorities.

The NGE noted that ANEC remains one of Nigeria’s most respected forums for shaping conversations around national development, democratic accountability and professional standards in journalism.
