Enugu, Nigeria — The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) has hailed Amnesty International’s latest report titled “A Decade of Impunity: Attacks and Unlawful Killings in Southeast Nigeria”, describing it as a crucial intervention in the fight against human rights abuses and systemic lawlessness in the region.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, FENRAD commended Amnesty International’s consistency in documenting cases of violence, unlawful killings, and human rights violations that have plagued the Southeast over the past ten years. The Foundation emphasized that the report’s findings should spur urgent governmental action and a broader accountability campaign.
FENRAD confirmed its participation in the official presentation of the report and the launch of a global campaign against impunity, scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at BON Hotel Platinum, Independence Layout, Enugu, by 10:00 a.m. WAT.
Speaking ahead of the event, Comrade Nwafor expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in the region:
“We cannot continue to normalise bloodshed and lawlessness. What we are witnessing is a systemic erosion of justice and human dignity. FENRAD is fully aligned with Amnesty International’s call for transparency, accountability, and urgent reform to safeguard the lives and rights of citizens in the region.”
He further warned that impunity, if left unchecked, poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s democracy, peace, and development. FENRAD urged security agencies and government institutions to confront the root causes of violence through fair investigations and judicial processes, rather than suppressing dissent or overlooking victims’ rights.
The organization also called on media houses, civil society groups, and development partners to attend the presentation and support the growing international effort to restore justice and uphold human rights in Nigeria’s Southeast.

FENRAD Commends Amnesty International’s Report on Southeast Insecurity, Backs Global Campaign Against Impunity
Enugu, Nigeria — The Foundation for Environmental Rights Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) strongly commends Amnesty International for its timely and comprehensive report, “A Decade of Impunity: Attacks and Unlawful Killings in Southeast Nigeria,” which documents a disturbing trend of violence and human rights violations in the Southeast region over the past ten years.
FENRAD, represented by its Executive Director, Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, is proud to be among the key stakeholders engaging in the official presentation of this landmark report and the launch of a global campaign against impunity, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at BON Hotel Platinum, Independence Layout, Enugu, at 10:00 a.m. WAT.
Speaking ahead of the event, Nwafor lamented the worsening state of insecurity in the region, noting that the frequency of unlawful killings, violent attacks, and the seeming lack of accountability have had devastating impacts on both the people and the socio-economic stability of the Southeast.
“We cannot continue to normalise bloodshed and lawlessness,” Nwafor said. “What we are witnessing is a systemic erosion of justice and human dignity. FENRAD is fully aligned with Amnesty International’s call for transparency, accountability, and urgent reform to safeguard the lives and rights of citizens in the region.”
FENRAD reiterates that human rights must be protected without compromise, and that impunity, in any form, poses a serious threat to democracy, peace, and development.
The Foundation joins Amnesty International and other civil society actors in calling on the Nigerian government, security agencies, and all relevant institutions to act decisively and responsibly in addressing the root causes of violence in the Southeast. It is time to prioritise justice, not just in rhetoric, but through concrete action.
FENRAD encourages the public, media, and development partners to attend the report presentation and lend their voices to the campaign for justice and accountability.
