The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) has reaffirmed its leadership in advocacy and research by participating in a major research initiative on labour protection within Civil Society Organization (CSO) workspaces in Nigeria.
The study, spearheaded by the South Sahara Development Organization (SSDO), focused on improving fairness, dignity, and justice in working conditions across the civil society sector. FENRAD played a vital role as one of the key research organizations involved, contributing its expertise in governance, rights protection, and workplace ethics.
The Enugu dissemination workshop — part of SSDO’s broader national effort — brought together stakeholders from across Nigeria’s civil society, government, and development sectors. The platform allowed participants to share insights, assess existing labour conditions, and propose frameworks that ensure better rights protection and employee wellbeing within nonprofit organizations.
Speaking during the event, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, Executive Director of FENRAD, commended SSDO for its vision and pledged FENRAD’s continued advocacy for decent and dignified working conditions across Nigeria’s nonprofit ecosystem. He emphasized that sustainable change in the civil society space requires not just passion for advocacy but also fairness and justice in internal labour practices.
One of the highlights of the programme was the decision to create a CSO platform for cross-learning and organizational development, aimed at fostering collaboration, peer exchange, and stronger institutional practices across the sector.
FENRAD’s active participation reflects its consistent dedication to advancing environmental justice, human rights, and institutional integrity within Nigeria’s development community.
Newspot Nigeria notes that such collaborations underscore the growing recognition of CSOs not only as voices of advocacy but also as models for ethical labour standards in the country.
