Sean Combs, the once-celebrated hip-hop mogul popularly known as Diddy, was on Friday sentenced to 50 months (over four years) in federal prison by Judge Arun Subramanian of the Southern District of New York. The ruling followed his conviction on two counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.
In a packed Manhattan courtroom, Judge Subramanian said the substantial sentence was meant “to send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.” Prosecutors had sought over 11 years, while Combs’s legal team pleaded for just 14 months, citing his rehabilitation and remorse.
Combs, who did not testify during his trial, broke his silence at sentencing, calling his actions “disgusting, shameful, and sick.” Fighting tears, he apologized to his ex-girlfriends, Casandra Ventura (Cassie) and another woman identified as Jane, both of whom testified against him, describing disturbing sexual encounters arranged by Combs, including what they called “freak-offs” involving hired male escorts.
“I beg your honor for mercy,” Combs said, his voice shaking. “No matter what anybody says, I know that I’m truly sorry for it all.”
Judge Subramanian noted that Combs’s immense financial resources enabled his crimes and that even after apologizing for assaulting Cassie, he later attacked another girlfriend. The judge also imposed a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release, ordering forfeiture of assets linked to the offenses.
Combs’s six adult children and his mother, Janice Combs, attended the hearing, with emotional pleas for leniency. His daughters tearfully asked the judge to “give our family the chance to heal together.” Outside the court, supporters shouted encouragements as the family exited into black vans.
Combs’s lawyers said they would recommend a preferred correctional facility by Monday. Accounting for time already served and good behavior, Combs could be released as early as 2028.
The sentencing marks a dramatic downfall for one of the most influential figures in music and fashion. Once a symbol of success and power, Diddy now faces years behind bars—his empire in ruins and his name permanently tied to a dark chapter of abuse and accountability.
